Watch Mich. Deputies Use Pickup Truck to Make Apartment Fire Rescues
An Arkansas deputy needed to wade through chest-deep floodwaters Tuesday to carry two people to dry land following days of torrential rain.
Ouachita County Sheriff's Deputy Nathan Lane responded to a call involving a couple who was trapped in their home because of the flooding, KATV-TV reports. At least one of the individuals was on dialysis.
Lane used a dump truck to reach the couple's home. Once there, the deputy thought about going for a boat, but instead, he decided to get into the water and wade to the couple's home.
"The dump truck driver, he actually carried the wife out of the house on his shoulders like you would carry a small child," Lane told KATV.
The deputy then grabbed the other person and carried him to safety.
"I told him, the guy, I was like you can either get a piggyback ride or you can get carried like a fireman carry, and he was just like, 'I'll take the fireman carry,'" said Lane.
